50/50 Draw

This weeks draw was held in Bolands and Maria Groarke of Derryronane won €793.
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online throughΒ www.swinfordgaa.ieΒ where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. Next draw is in Julians Bar on the 4th October. Draw envelopes are available at 3 for €5.

The winner of the All Ireland Final Ticket was Sarah Lavin of Railway Terrace, Swinford.

All Ireland Replay Tickets

The club received an allocation of tickets on Sunday night from the county board, unfortunately demand is running at twice the amount of tickets. We are hoping that we will get a second allocation on Thursday. Recipients of tickets will be contacted with details of where to collect their ticket.

I’m afraid it will not be possible to give out multiple tickets. As with the drawn match the majority of tickets are either Hill16 or Nally terrace.

The club did not take up any juvenile tickets as the offer was only ten tickets and would have been at the expense of adult tickets.

Minor B Championship:

Swinford Parke KC Minor team defeated Bonniconlon in terrible conditions on Friday evening in Bekan by 2-5 to 0-2 to qualify for the county semi final. 36 hours later they had to go out and play Belmullet at their home and this was too much and they were beaten 2-18 to 0-2. There is no doubt the fixture list and player wellfare has to be looked at for the coming year. Well done to all the lads from both clubs and to the management.

In wet and windy conditions on Saturday evening Ballyhaunis came to Robert McCallion Memorial Park and left with the two points by defeating Swinford 0-15 to 1-9. The teams were level at the interval on 0-6 apiece but it was Ballyhaunis who used the conditions better in the second half. Match report at swinfordgaa.ie

Senior League Division 1E Swinford v Aghamore

Swinford_GAA_Crest

As Swinford warned up before the match the sky opened and what a downpour that came down but thankfully save for some showers the rain wan not too heavy for the game.

Swinford won the toss and decided to play against the wind for the first half. Aghamore ran into a teo point lead but two successful frees from Kevin McDonagh leveled the game after ten minutes. A great run by Pearse Walsh who picked out Gerry Callaghan and bang the ball was in the back of the net, from there Swinford led the game. Darren Campbell quickly extended the lead with a converted free. Kevin McDonagh got his third of the game and his first from play when a quick free was played to him and over the ball went. After 20 minutes the score was 1-4 to 0-2.

Swinford were in complete control at this stage and well in position to win the game easily when Gerry Callaghan picked up a yellow and then black card and we were down to 14 men. Aghamore then rattled off three points before the break to give themselves a great chance.

Aghamore continued off again in the second half and there was only one between the teams. Kevin McDonagh steadied the team with a great point from out on the left and Barry Brennan moved into full forward and got a fine point. Kevin McDonagh put over another free to extend the lead to 4.

Aghamore tested our defence but it was very resolute and great in the tackling. A converted 45 and a free threw them a lifeline midway through the half but they did not get any more success on the scoreboard. Swinford pressured the Aghamore kickout and drew success when James Sweeney caught a short kickout and Darren Campbell got the resulting point.

James constant pressure and nonstop running ended with him picking a nasty looking head injury but even on his way off the field he was giving directions to the players.

Another point by Kevin McDonagh concluded the game with Swinford winning by 1-9 to 0-8.

It was a very good end to the league campaigh and we finished on 18 points. Still waiting for other results to see if this is enough to go up……..

Swinford: Damien Geraghty, Aiden McLoughlin, John Gerard Kelly, Peter Quinn, Kevin Barry, Steven Walsh, Barry Brennan, Gerry Callaghan, Cillian O’Donnell, Kevin McShea, Kevin McDonagh, Pearse Walsh, Darren Campbell, James Sweeney. Subs Paul McNicholas, Mark McNicholas

Scorers: Kevin McDonagh 0-6, Gerry Callaghan 1-0, Darren Campbell 0-2, Barry Brennan 0-1

Update: Ballina Stephenites defeated Kilmovee Shamrocks and Westport conceded to Garrymore so both Ballina and Garrymore have been promoted.

Senior League Div1C Swinford v Ballyhaunis

Swinford_GAA_Crest

On a wet and windy evening at Robert McCallion Memorial Park Swinford met Ballyhaunis in a mid table clash with both teams looking for the two points to safeguard their status for another year.

Swinford started off the better team and got the opening two points from Kevin McShea and Darren Campbell. Ballyhaunis came back into the game and after a goal line clearance by Sean Brady their goalkeeper put over the resulting 45. After a few wides they leveled the gale at two apiece.

Darren Campbell put Swinford back in the lead but Ballyhaunis leveled from a free and so midway through the half it was all level. Liam Moran gave the lead back to Swinford with a great run but Ballyhaunis leveled for the third time.

James Devaney had a great chance for a goal but for a rasper of a shot to come back off the butt of the post. Ballyhaunis then got the next two points and for another goal line clearance by Sean Brady could have gone further ahead.

Points from Liam Moran and James Devaney before the break left the teams level at 0-6 apiece. Swinford enjoyed the wind in theΒ  half and needed to be ahead at the interval.

Two points from Ballyhaunis gave them the upper hand early in the second half before great link up between Kevin McShea and Liam Moran saw Liam get one back. Ballyhaunis with two points extended the lead to three.

More fine work by Kevin McShea led to a goal for Kevin McDonagh and Swinford were right back in the game. This was the last action by Kevin McShea as he was replaced by Barry Brennan and Gerry Callaghan came on for Mark McNicholas.

Liam Moran put Swinford back into the lead with his fourth point of the game. Unfortunately Ballyhaunis got the nextΒ  three points of the game including two frees to put them in a two point lead entering the last five minutes. Gavin Moore pulled off a great save to keep Swinford in the game.

Liam Moran pulled one back with a free but again Ballyhaunis came and got the next two points for a three point lead. Swinford had one last chance which did not come off and the game finished 1-9 to 0-15.

It was a game that Swinford well could have got something out of but were also fortunate to lose by only three points. Two goal line clearances and a great save kept the game alive for Swinford, yet if they had got the goal in the first half a different score could well have been the outcome.

Swinford: Gavin Moore, Aidan McLoughlin, Sean Brady, Kevin Barry, Mark McNicholas, Mark Forkan, James Lavin, Joe Kelly, Kevin McShea, Johnny Burke, Kevin McDonagh, Liam Moran, Darren Campbell, James Sweeney, James Devaney. Subs Barry Brennan, Gerry Callaghan, Darrgh McIntyre.

Scorers: Liam Moran 0-5, James Devaney 1-1, Darren Campbell 0-2, Kevin McShea 0-1

There are two interesting games at the bottom of the table tomorrow with Tourmakeady home to Louisburgh and Cill Chomain home to Ardagh.

We still have two away games left against Louisburgh and Castlebar Mitchels.
