In terrible weather conditions we were treated to a fine game of football by two evenly matched teams in Bekan on Friday night. Charlestown led by a goal at the break but great points from Ryan Convey, Johnny Burke, Shane Fallon and Jamie Carney and a goal & point from james Devaney in the second half saw Swinford win by two points on a scoreline of Swinford 1-13 Charlestown 1-11. Swinford and Ballycroy met in a replay of their Junior Championship playoff in Bonniconlon on Saturday evening. Swinford led by four at half time by 1-6 to 0-5 with a goal by darren Campbell and four points from play by Gerry Callaghan and two points from Kevin McDonagh but they struggled in the second half and Ballycroy scored 1-3 before Swinford got on the scoreboard. Under 10 Blitz
Knockmore invited a team of our u10s to play in their annual blitz last Saturday. This competition involves 24 clubs from around the county and is a credit to Knockmore GAA.
The Swinford team played very well and ended up winning their section. They are just one team from our panel of 35 u10s and the entire u10 panel has shown great application and attitude this year. They improve with every game and we can look forward to seeing them wearing the Black & Red for the next few decades!
A special word of thanks must go out to the coaches on the day – James McNicholas, Ray Gilmore, Thomas Tuffy & Michael Devaney – and to all the underage coaches that are doing such great work for the future of the club, from u6 upwards.
