After two defeats in the opening two games of the league campaign the visit of Hollymount Carramore to Robert McCallion Memorial Park was a big match for Swinford.
Swinford opened the scoring with a point by Caoimghin McLoughlin but the visitors first score was a goal. Swinford bounced back with a free from Michael Predergast and a point from James Sweeney to level the game after ten minutes.
The next two scores came from Hollymount with a point and then a second goal. Swinford also lost Kevin Doyle to an injury to be replaced by Louis Cummins. Darren Campbel pulled a point back but the visitors soon brought the scores back to double scores.
Swinford settled into the game and pulled the game level at the break with points from Louis Cummins, Adrian Forkan, Kevin Forkan and the equaliser from the boot of Adrian Forkan in injury time.
It was the least Swinford deserved for all their effort.
Swinford started the second half as they finished the first with points from Michael Predergast and a rare point from Paul McDonagh. Hollymount got one back as both teams missed some chances. The visiting goalkeeper pulled off a great save from Adrian Forkan after a great ball from Louis Cummins.
Points from Adrian Forkan and Louis Cummins extended Swinford lead to three points with just under ten minutes to go. Hollymount Carramore then threw everything at Swinford and scored two points and thankfully had a few wides.
From somewhere the referee saw fit to play four minutes of injury time but a resolute defence from Swinford and a tremendous save by Gavin Moore saw Swinford hold out for a one point win by 0-12 to 2-5.
When a win and a good performance was most needed the Swinford team delivered.
