Swinford GAA Weekly News

Swinford GAA 50/50 draw
This weeks draw was held in Sheepwalk and Kevin Groarke of Ballina Road, Swinford won €449. The winning envelope was an annual ticket bought by Kevin. 
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. The next draw is in Horkans on 4th February. Draw envelopes available for €2 each or 3 for €5.

Club Registration 
Club registration will take place in the Gateway Hotel on Saturday 1st February 11am to 1pm. Club membership is €60 player, €100 if 2 players in one family, €120 if 3 players in the one family. New player member is €20. 

Management for 2020
The club executive met tonight and a management team has been put in place for the 2020 season.

Patrick Brehony has been appointed as manager of our Intermediate team. Patrick has been involved with Charlestown GAA and East Mayo for many years.

Patrick will be assisted by selectors Kevin McShea and John Sheahan. Kevin has been a senior player for the last number of years and when not playing will be assisting the Manager. John has years of experience both playing and coaching with Swinford GAA.

Thank you to the sub committee for the work put in to getting a new management team.

Swinford GAA New management

Mayo GAA County Cup
Well done to Aiden Dunleavy and Dylan Toner and the East Mayo team on winning the County Cup on Saturday 18th in Centre of Excellence Bekan

Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. The next draw is in Quinns on 21st January. Draw envelopes available for €2 each or 3 for €5.

Club Executive Meeting

The club executive met on Friday 10th January and a new Bord na nOg committee was established under the Chairmanship of Vincent Roughneen with Michael Murtagh as secretary. Joe Mellett is staying on as Chairman of the Social and Finance Committee and the committee was thanked for their great work in 2019. The club are still searching for a manager of the Intermediate team and we would like to invite applications for the position for the 2020 season. Applications from outside the club are  welcome. A key focus for the manager in 2020 will be to work with the minor management to ensure the preparation of our younger players to play at senior level. Connacht Scor na nOg
Well done to Orla Connolly in the solo singing category and Aisling Hyland, Aoibheann Brennan, Anna Doherty and Sean Healy in Ballad Group category who represented Swinford and East Mayo in the Connacht Final of Scor na nOg in Claremorris.

This weeks draw was held in Gateway Hotel and Marie Deacy of Bohola won €478. The winning ticket was sold in O’Donnells Pharmacy.

This weeks draw was held in Bolands and Brian Turbitt won €422
Envelopes are available in most business premises and online through www.swinfordgaa.ie where tickets can be purchased in bundles of 10/25/52 weeks. The next draw is in Melletts on Tuesday 17th December. Draw envelopes available for €2 each or 3 for €5.There will be no draw on the 24th December with a big draw on the 29th December in the Whitehouse. 

Special General meeting

A special general meeting of the club was held on Sunday 8th December to finalise the election of officers and the club executive for the coming year. Major Event

Thank you to everyone who supported the draw and our fundraising day in Julians. Between the draw, bazaar and auction a total of €14,302 was raised. There was costs & expenses of €3,109 leaving a net €11,193 raised. This money will be used for the development of the area adjacent to our clubhouse. Thank you for all your support.

Nominations are to be accompanied by a letter signed by the nominee indicating that they are willing to allow their name go forward.

Major Event

We had a fantastic day in Julians on Sunday, thanks to everyone who supported the day. It was a great success.
Thanks to everyone on the social & fundraising committee who put in many weeks of work to make the day the success it was.
Thanks to our mc for the day Paddy Cunney, he kept everything moving along.
Thanks to our hosts, the Julian family for all their help. The day would not have been such a success without them.
Thanks to Diarmuid O’Connor for coming along for the presentation and to Santa Claus for dropping in during his busy time of year.
Thanks to all our sponsors who gave so genoursly.

Congrats to our prizewinners in our big draw.
1st prize, the trip to Euro Disney was won by Bernie Pektas of Treanlaur.
2nd prize, the Laptop was won by John, Shane & Sharon Ansboro, Killaturley
3rd prize, the TV was won by John Dunne, Swinford
4th prize B&B in Broadhaven was won by Maira Tuffy, Killasser
5th prize, county board draw ticket was won by Cian Kennedy, Midfield.

Scor Mhaigh Eo

Congrats to Orla Connolly on winning Solo Singing at the Scor na nOg County Final on Sunday in Balla and to our ballad group of Aishling Hyland, Aoibheann Brennan, Anna Doherty, Orla Connolly and Sean Healy on winning best group. Thanks to Teresa Brennan and Mairin Noone for all their work. They now go on to represent Mayo in the Connacht Final of Scor na nOg in Claremorris on January 11th.
